You can trust people and still lock the door. Those are not in conflict. Good businesses do both at once.

Trust Relationships. Protect the System.

Trust is how you build with people. Protection is how you keep the thing you built. Treating those as opposites is how good operators get burned.

You can believe in your people fully and still protect the IP, the database, and the access. That is not paranoia. That is basic hygiene.

Trust the person, secure the structure

The mistake is thinking that guarding the system is an insult to the people. It is not. The system outlives any individual, including you. Protecting it protects everyone who depends on it.

Give people your trust and your loyalty. Do not give them the keys to something they can accidentally break or walk out the door with.

Trust relationships. Protect the system.

Chaos is the real threat

The people to watch are not the ones asking hard questions. They are the ones who bring chaos, who yell, who cannot be grateful. Chaos is a virus. Keep it away from the machine.

Protecting the system is how you make room to keep trusting people. The two hold each other up.
