Everybody has a good year in them. One clean run, one lucky streak, one call that lands. That is not skill. That is variance wearing a costume.
The real test is the bad year. The one where nothing cooperates and the market does the opposite of what makes sense. That is where most people get carried out.
The people who last are not the ones who never have a bad month. They are the ones who built for it before it arrived.
Survival is the edge. The edge is the whole game.
Protect the downside first
Preserve capital first. That is not a slogan. It is the entire order of operations. You protect the downside, then you let disciplined compounding do the slow work.
A system that only knows how to win in a good market is not a system. It is a bet that the weather never changes.
A losing month is not a failure. Panic is.
Every real track record has red in it. Wins and drawdowns both, on the record. Anyone showing you a straight line up is showing you a highlight reel or a lie.
The question is never whether a bad stretch comes. It is whether the discipline holds when it does. If the discipline lives in the system instead of your mood, it holds.
Do not chase the win. Outlast it.
