Skill is a starting point. It is real, it matters, and it is nowhere near enough. Plenty of talented people go nowhere because talent does not compound on its own.
Systems compound. A repeatable structure that produces the same result without depending on your best day is what turns a good run into a durable one.
The founder trap
Most founders are the system. Everything routes through their head, their instincts, their memory. That works until it does not, and it caps the whole thing at the size of one person.
The job is to get the discipline out of your head and into the machine. Build it so it runs without you, then go build the next thing.
Skill gets you started. Systems make it compound.
Instinct does not scale
You can run a small thing on instinct. You cannot run a large one that way. At some point the choice is clear. Turn what works into a system, or stay small forever.
The people who win over the long run are not the most talented. They are the ones who built the discipline into the machine.
