If I could keep only one rule, it would be this one. Preserve capital first. Everything else, every clever idea and every big opportunity, sits underneath it.
The reason is math, not caution. Losses hurt more than gains help. A big drawdown can undo years of good decisions in a single stretch. So you defend first, always.
Survival is a precondition, not a strategy add-on
You cannot compound if you are out of the game. Every strategy assumes you are still standing to run it. Capital preservation is what keeps you standing.
This is why the flashy, high-leverage approaches eventually blow up. They optimized for the upside and forgot that one bad event ends the whole story.
Preserve capital first. Everything else is second.
Boring by design
A defense-first system will underwhelm anyone looking for excitement. Good. Excitement and capital preservation are usually on opposite ends of the same trade.
Protect the downside. Let time and compounding do the rest. That is the whole game.
